Does anyone run an un-manned boiler, chiller, compressor operation for night shift?
Is so, what were your obstacles to implementation? Lessons learned? |

Do you mean unmanned boiler systems during night shift? What I know there must be certified boiler operators to operate boilers. And the bigger the heating surface, you may need a steam engineer. We have boiler operators in our night crew.
How big are these boilers? Packaged boiler or field erected boiler? What burner & control management system do you use? What are the steam used for? To run steam turbines for power generation or for heating homes? Are you sure you don't need any manual interventions from the boiler operators? Do you have standby units? Depending on the local regulations, it may be possible to control your plant remotely. I know of an 80MW power plant in Canada that is totally dark and controlled from another site in Milwaukee.
Let me know if you want to know more. |

Ok, how bid is the boiler in terms of heating surface? Under what conditions the local authorities will allow to run without any boilerman or totally unmanned? Is it because it has a shutdown system? What is the minimum manning requirement?
Do you need to have a certified IC engine driver for isolated instllations? This message has been edited. Last edited by: Josh, |
