Does Rockwell still offer the dataPAC 1500 product, or does a new user have to buy the Enpac 2500? I can't seem to get a straight answer on this.

The Datapac was made obsolete 1st May although Rockwell will still support spares, repair and calibration for the forseeable future. Many consumables can be used with Datapac and Enpac 2500.
Rockwell will now only offer Enpac 2500 and Enpac Ex. |

There are still some Datapac's in back stock and maybe available however Rockwell has informed local agents that they should now only promote the Enpac range. |

Happy Thank's Giving. I have requested noification document from Rockwell re  ataPac now obsolete, however it has been posted on RA Knowledge Base web site (somewhere!) Post your mail address and when I receive doc I will forward to you. Please note, Enpac 1200, the fore runner of the 2500 was a development between DI and Entek released 2000. This is still the only instrument with inbuilt tacho and ESP/gSE filters. All other companies followed the lead! |

I will be calling support to find out prices on the replacement instruments anyway and can request the notification document. Are you an Entek user or are you employed by Rockwell? (Enpac 1200, the fore runner of the 2500 was a development between DI and Entek released 2000. This is still the only instrument with inbuilt tacho and ESP/gSE filters. All other companies followed the lead! Is the 1200 the only instrument with the ESP/GSE filters? The 2500 does not have these filters? What do you mean that all other companies followed the lead? The 2500 has the ESP/gSe filters. I think what he meant by the "everyone else followed the lead" was the installation of the laser within the box. You can turn it on for gathering route data, balancing, etc. and not have to have a seperate tach. hooked up. You can still use a seperate tach or light source, you just have to have the cable.

The Enpac is a 'DI Chassis' (now owned by SKF). Entek were the first to use this chassis for vibration. Other companies used the chassis for manual data entry, exhaust emissions etc.
I was involved in early trails of Enpac in 1999. Now this chassis is used widely throughout industry with SKF, Predict and Bently all using the chassis for vibration. gSE Filter is Entek product and the filter is available in other RA instrumentation. Similar - CSI use Pkvue SKF use HFD. |

How does the 2500 compare to the datapac 1500 for analysis capability? I have heard that the screen visibility is better than the datapac.

The screens are as similar as chalk and cheese. The Dpac is large, mono with backlight, 2500 is much smaller colour screen. For analysis the Dpac was very good especially when 20 other people are looking over your shoulder. Dpac also has a remote display function so the screen can be shown on a PC or through a projector - great for training. I consider the 2500 more for data collection and generally use the software for analysis, although I did have 20+ people watching me balance a FD Fan with the Enpac. Ex version of Enpac has a mono screen and is only single channel. |

I'm 51, and the Dpac screen is hard for me to see in low light situations, or out in the bright sun. THe backlight helps, but there are some places (dark corners down around sumps, etc) that it is hard to see the screen. The contrast setting can be adjusted, but must be readjusted when in different lighting situations. The EPac screen is extremely easy to see everywhere I've been. I am currently using some beta analysis software with ePac that is way above what Dpac was capable of (Bode, Nyquist plots,etc.) I still like the Dpac balancing program better, but Epac program is being worked on to solve some of the problems, or so I've been told. We'll wait and see. Speed of processing after you punch the button is better with Epac. The weight difference after having DPac hanging on your neck all day is also a big difference. I can carry the Epac a lot longer without my back or neck aching. There is a way to go with Epac before it is really a Dpac replacment, but if Mother Rockwell doesn't screw it up, it should be a nice instrument. D |

I also know of the datapac screen problem. I did purchase an anti-glare window to put over the screen and it did help some. Screen size is also important to me. I'm in your age range too just a little higher.
The datapac will be used at our plant for a couple more years. Maybe the Epac 2500 will have improved enough to rightfully take the Dpac's place by then. Hope that Beta test moves along swiftly. Sure takes a long time to bring advances to the market. I am still keeping my eye on the other up and coming collectors/analyzers. Some pretty neat ideas are floating around out there! Don |

Hi, i moved from datapac to enpac 1200 thru neccessity - my datapac packed up after 7 years of use. I was told couldn't be fixed (someone obviously had their eye on a bonus) so of course being the dumb consumer agreed to buy Enpac.
Must say tho have found it good - much lighter and easier - and I'm in love with the tacho. Missed the strap round the neck though - they obviously figured didn't need one as it was so light - though I'm no good at climbing ladders with one hand so I jerry rigged my old datapac strap on with some cable ties - works well. Overall my rating for Enpac V. Good. P.S I don't work for Rockwell and have no monetary interest in . Mike. |
